China¡¯s National Health Commission Unveils Ten Public Health Service Initiatives Toward 2026

National Health Commission of the PRC recently convened a meeting in Beijing to outline ten practical initiatives for public service by 2026.

 

1. Pediatric services expansion: An additional 1,000 township health centers and community health service centers will provide diagnosis and treatment for common and frequently occurring childhood diseases, further strengthening pediatric services and improving accessibility and convenience.

 

2. Mental health services: Psychological outpatient clinics will be newly established in 110 counties, supporting the extension of mental health services closer to communities.

 

3. Healthy weight management: All tertiary public hospitals will offer healthy weight management clinics to reduce the health impact of chronic diseases on the population.

 

4. Mutual recognition of tests: At the prefecture-level city as the basic unit, at least 300 diagnostic and laboratory test items will be mutually recognized among secondary and above medical institutions, improving patient experience while saving time and costs.

 

5. Hemodialysis access: All counties with a permanent population over 60,000 will be able to provide hemodialysis services. Nationwide, 350 additional township health centers and community health service centers will offer hemodialysis, making services more accessible nearby.

 

6. Early pregnancy care: 10,000 medical institutions nationwide will provide early pregnancy care clinics, strengthening counseling and guidance in early pregnancy and effectively protecting fertility.

 

7. Childcare capacity: An additional 150,000 inclusive childcare places will be added nationwide to reduce families¡¯ childcare burden and increase enrollment rates based on local conditions.

 

8. HPV vaccination: Free HPV vaccination under the National Immunization Program will be provided to girls aged 13, reducing infection rates and the incidence of cervical cancer in adulthood. Township health centers and community health service centers will also offer weekend vaccination services to improve accessibility.

 

9. Integrated medicine training: Training will be provided for 3,200 backbone professionals, enabling more people to access high-quality and convenient integrated Chinese¨CWestern medical services.

 

10. Health education and literacy: Briefings about the Solar Terms and health will be held, with over 10,000 health education lectures nationwide, integrating health education into daily work and life and further improving residents¡¯ health literacy.
