Siemens Healthineers and Evident said Wednesday that they are partnering on the delivery of a digital pathology workflow to the German nonprofit teaching hospital Klinikum der Stadt Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
Under the terms of the agreement, the firms will use Evident's advanced imaging technologies in combination with Siemens' digital pathology solutions. The companies said that the deal will apply Siemens' clinical and technological expertise and Evident's Pramana digital pathology platform to support the hospital's centralized pathology workflows as well as enable the scanning of multiple types of specimens, including cytology samples, through advanced volumetric imaging.
Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Tokyo-based Evident is the former scientific solutions business of Olympus, which announced in 2022 that it had divested that business as a wholly owned subsidiary.
Evident announced last week that it had completed its acquisition of digital pathology scanner developer Pramana, which had previously secured CE marking under the EU's In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation for its digital pathology platform. Siemens has also announced agreements with firms in the digital pathology space, notably a 2022 multiyear agreement to combine its Enterprise Imaging offering with Proscia's Concentriq Dx digital pathology platform and a 2023 multiyear agreement for the distribution of Hamamatsu's NanoZoomer whole-slide scanners. The Proscia and Hamamatsu products are integrated with Siemens' Syngo Carbon data management software.
Mindaugas Andrulis, head of the Klinikum Ludwigshafen Institute of Pathology, said in a statement that the hospital is integrating its pathology operations with other diagnostic disciplines in a combined IT framework, with plans to use artificial intelligence-derived models to advance clinical care. The hospital's pathology lab handles more than 25,000 histological cases annually.
