In the afternoon of March 30, the first batch of hospitals of the International Hospital Accreditation and Certification Standards (China) accreditation and certification kick-off meeting was held in Qianhai, Shenzhen. 13 hospitals including The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou First People` s Hospital, Shenzhen Hospital Of Southern Medical University, etc. in China will participate in the accreditation and certification. This will help the integration and development of the medical systems of the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, the effective convergence of medical rules, the realization of the same standard and quality of medical care, but also conducive to Chinese hospitals and international convergence, more convenient to obtain the recognition of international commercial insurance agencies.

Hospital accreditation and certification are important for promoting standardization and homogenization of medical services and ensuring medical quality and safety, and are also an important means to promote mutual trust and recognition in the medical industry in an international way. Globally, JCI in the United States and ACHS in Australia are the prevailing international medical accreditation standards.

With China's increasingly frequent participation and global health affairs such as international health exchanges and cooperation, the country urgently needs to promote the rules and standards of the health care industry to converge with international standards in order to facilitate the convenient flow of medical resource elements and further enhance China's influence in the international health care field.

In 2020, the central government released the "Shenzhen Pilot Implementation Plan for Comprehensive Reform in Building a Demonstration Zone of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", which clearly proposed that Shenzhen should explore the establishment of a hospital accreditation and recognition standard system that is in line with international standards.

In December 2020, with the support of the National Health and Health Commission and the Guangdong Provincial Health and Health Commission, Shenzhen established the Shenzhen Health and Health Hospital Accreditation and Evaluation Research Center, a non-profit, third-party accreditation and evaluation research center. In September 2022, the International Standard for Hospital Quality Accreditation (2021 Edition) was released in Qianhai, Shenzhen, becoming the first international version of the "Hospital standards", which can be used as a "bridge" for Chinese hospitals to go international.

From March 30, 2023, 13 hospitals from five cities, including Beijing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, will be the first batch of hospitals to participate in the accreditation and certification of the International Accreditation Standards for Hospital Quality (2021 Edition).

The standard is divided into 3 chapters, including hospital functions and tasks, patient safety, medical services and quality of care, and hospital management, with 186 evaluation entries, each with 6 levels of evaluation results (excellent, good, workable, partially workable, unworkable and NA), and is reviewed every four years, emphasising continuous improvement.
