Jabil Inc. is consolidating its healthcare businesses under Jabil Healthcare. These include Jabil¡¯s embedded-sensors business, its injection molding business through Nypro, and its orthopedics, spine, trauma, and medical instruments operations acquired from Johnson & Johnson. The company¡¯s strategy ¡°allows us to be unified in our approach to our customers, to understand their needs and roadmap, and to understand how to offer them value,¡± Steve Borges, CEO and EVP of Jabil Healthcare said.

One of those needs includes keeping up with today¡¯s trends of home healthcare and the digitalization of data, Borges said. ¡°Patients are taking more control of their health, and they need products that provide feedback to patients, caregivers, and doctors on the efficacy of procedures,¡± he said. ¡°They need smart devices.¡±In addition, today¡¯s value-based-care programs require a better understanding of the efficacy of procedures, he added. ¡°This requires some level of technology in products.¡±

There¡¯s also a need to ¡°collect a lot of data to understand a disease state and treatment, and it has to be good data,¡± Borges added. ¡°The challenge is there hasn¡¯t been a catalyst to share data¡ªbut it will happen over time.¡±

Jabil has been providing electronics, circuit board assemblies, and sensor technologies to medical device companies for years, and customers have been utilizing Nypro¡¯s injection molding business, he says. All the businesses are now unified under one umbrella, but ¡°customer access won¡¯t change, and there is no structural change in leadership,¡± said Borges. ¡°It will be seamless¡ªno reorganization to confuse customers¡ªit will just ensure they get the very best of Jabil to support their needs.¡±

For instance, Jabil¡¯s capabilities in multiple sectors could benefit medical device companies. ¡°We are seeing sensor technologies from automotive as well as camera technologies from consumer tech cross over into medtech,¡± he explained. ¡°Now that we are united, we can bring the best to healthcare for better products and better patient outcomes.¡±Jabil Healthcare has more than 35 global sites and nearly 20,000 employees. It serves five sectors in the healthcare market: medical devices, orthopedics, diagnostics, pharmaceutical delivery systems, and consumer health.
