Thermo Fisher Scientific announced after the close of the market on Wednesday it has completed its £256 million ($387 million) acquisition of Alfa Aesar.

The deal was announced in June. Based in Heysham, UK, Alfa Aesar was part of Johnson Matthey and has 480 employees. Among its product offerings are chemicals for DNA-, RNA-, and PCR-based research, products for DNA and protein labeling, and proteomics reagents and kits. The business, which generated sales of £78 million in 2014, will be integrated into Thermo Fisher's Laboratory Products and Services segment.

"With the close of the transaction, we now have the opportunity to fully leverage our combined capabilities in laboratory chemicals to drive growth," Thermo Fisher President and CEO Marc Casper said in a statement. "The addition of Alfa Aesar products to our existing chemicals portfolio offers customers greater access to a broad offering that serves virtually every laboratory application – from research to production."
