Veritas Genetics recently announced it is partnering with the Personal Genome Project (PGP) to offer whole-genome sequencing and interpretation for less than $1,000.

Veritas said in a statement that the collaboration with PGP is a "natural step." Veritas Co-founder and Harvard Medical School Professor George Church is the director of the PGP; the firm's CSO, Preston Estep, is PGP's director of sequencing; and its CMO, Joseph Thakuria, is PGP's medical director.

PGP is trying to sequence thousands of complete genomes to advance research into personal genomics and personalized medicine. It has more than 16,000 participants worldwide.

Financial and other details of the collaboration were not disclosed.

Earlier September, Veritas announced a new R&D center in China. In June, the firm launched a BRCA1 and BRCA2 test.
