Sensor developer TE Connectivity announced on Sunday that it has acquired three companies to further expand its business into the in vitro diagnostic arena.
The Schaffhausen, Switzerland-based firm acquired Toolbox Medical Innovations, Wi, and MicroLiquid for undisclosed amounts.
Toolbox Medical develops and manufactures point-of-care IVD products; Wi specializes in microfluidics, instrument design, cleanroom assembly, and blister packaging; and MicroLiquid focuses on polymer microfluidic disposable devices.
Each company will maintain its offices and will operate under the TE brand, TE said in a statement.
"Toolbox, MicroLiquid, and Wi each bring deep expertise in microfluidics and blister reagent packaging, and together we¡¯ll be able to offer clients a true end-to-end solution for design, development, prototyping, usability testing, clinical studies, and manufacturing," Uwe Winzen, general manager of TE's IVD business, said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Toolbox received a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to help develop a disposable, CRISPR-based, point-of-care device for the detection of 10 pathogens, as well as a multiplexed device for the detection of at least 1,000 targets.
